If you find it hard to manage all your tasks, to stay on top of what you need to do, then you need to let Active Desktop Calendar give you a helping hand. This properly good calendar application will help you manage a list of contacts, will provide an overview of the days of the month and what you need to do on each day, and will let you set up tasks, reminders, and put down notes.

Downloading the Active Desktop Calendar installation file will not take long as it weighs in at only 5.5MB. Run the file once the download completes, click through a simple setup wizard, and a few moments later, you will have it up and running on your Windows-powered machine. The whole installation process is incredibly straightforward and goes along smoothly.

The first time you run the application you will be presented with a Data Integration Wizard that invites you to add your existing calendars (Outlook Calendar, Google Calendar, contacts from Outlook, Outlook Express, Address Book) into Active Desktop Calendar.

The first time you run the application you will also be asked to pick one of 6 desktop layouts. What you see on your desktop depends on the layout you select. It also depends on the customization options you go for, but that’s something you’ll probably do after you pick a layout. For the purposes of testing this software, I went with layout 1. This layout presents a calendar in the middle of the screen (the current month is larger and you can click on dates, the previous and coming months are smaller) and to the right it presents a list of holidays, notes, and tasks (American holidays are loaded by default).

While Active Desktop Calendar is running, you will see an icon in the system tray. Double click it (or double click a date on the current month calendar) and you will be presented with a window that lets you create notes, alarms, tasks, manage contacts, pick an image Active Desktop Calendar will display, and choose between layers to change what Active Desktop Calendar displays. Right click the Active Desktop Calendar system tray icon and you will be presented with a context menu that lets you access the application’s Settings, quickly create a note, and more.

You can use Active Desktop Calendar free of charge for an unusual period of time – 42 days. When that evaluation period is over, you will have to get a license to keep using the application.

Active Desktop Calendar keeps you happy by providing useful functionality to help you stay organized with a good looking interface.

Pros

You can choose one of several desktop layouts; you can further customize the application’s looks from the Settings menu. Create and manage contacts, write down notes, create tasks and reminders, easily access the Active Desktop Calendar’s functionality.

Cons

Free to use for a limited amount of time.
